Hello Readers,
Guess who has a milestone birthday creeping up? Yep, it's me. I'm about to hit the age-that-shall-not-be-spoken-aloud, and frankly, the ticking of the deathwatch beetle is getting a little loud.
Navigating this impending milestone got me thinking about the books we read and the characters we love. Why is it that everyone gets old except characters in stories? If Buffy the Vampire Slayer aged in real-time, she'd be in her fifties right now!
In my newest post over on my E.S. Magill Substack, I'm diving into the rise of Paranormal Women's Fiction (PWF), why I want to see a 40-something Buffy kicking evil butt, and why it's so important to me that the women in my Magica series get to be powerful, fabulous, and proudly older.
Society needs to stop treating 40+ women like sage matriarchs who don’t know how to have fun. We're still here, we're still dorks, and the world needs more grown-ass women protagonists.
So Happy Birthday to me! And if you would like to join my Sanctuary Readers, click here. But if you don't want to, that's great too. If all you want to do is buy books, groovy. I appreciate your support.
Best,
E.S. Magill
